FINA Swimming World Cup 2005/2006 - Overall Win for Neethling & Alshammar
Feb 13, 2006

Lausanne SUI - Ryk Neethling (RSA) and Therese Alshammar (SWE) are the overall winners of the 2005/2006 FINA Swimming World Cup, taking each US$ 50,000 in prize money. The South African star (16 race victories in five meets) was also the winner of the 2004/2005 season, while Alshammar had her best World Cup results ever. Neethling win was possible thanks to his result in the men's 100m individual medley (51.81, 1089 points) in Sydney; for the Swedish swimmer, her time of 25.78 (1026 points) in the 50m butterfly in New York was enough to beat her challengers. Also in the women's field, Anna-Karin Kammerling (SWE) was second, after being the winner in the 2004/2005 season.

The eighth and final meet of the 2005/2006 FINA Swimming World Cup was held in Belo Horizonte (BRA) from February 10-12 and had in Camelia Potec (ROM) and Staciana Winfield (USA) the stars of the competition with three victories each.

The Brazilian swimmers (namely Kaio Almeida and Thiago Pereira) were also in evidence, taking nine gold medals.
