Arizona Men Not to be Outdone by the Lady Wildcats
It was exactly a week ago that long time Arizona men's and women's head coach Frank Busch was able to celebrate a NCAA championship victory with his team for the first time in his 19 year tenure. Of course that was in Columbus, Ohio and it was with the Lady Wildcats.

The men wanted to make sure they were able to match the accomplishments of women and win one not only for themselves, but for their head coach. "He"s [Busch] great. Hands down, the best coaching staff in the world," said senior star Albert Subirats. "They deserve it. We just wanted to do it for them."

Even though it would have taken a miracle for another team to overcome the lead that Arizona had built over the first two days of competition, the Wildcats didn't want to leave anything to chance.

After the prelims of the 400 freestyle relay, which was the final event of the competition the top three qualifiers were Cal, Arizona and Auburn. Cesar Cielo the fastest 100 yard freestyler of all time led off the Auburn relay.

After the first 100 the Arizona men were able to slowly chip away at Auburn's lead, keeping them within striking distance for their anchorman Canadian sophomore Joel Greenshields. Going into the final 50 Greenshields still had the daunting task of erasing Auburn's lead which was just over a second.

The confidence that the coaching staff put in Greenshields, who had to spend most of the evening under medical supervision because of an irregular heartbeat, paid off. He not only erased the lead, but when he touched the wall it was almost half a second ahead of Auburn's Steve Scheren.

Greendshields impressed everyone in attendance especially his team mates, "Unbelievable. Nothing beats getting a relay win at the end. Joel is only a sophomore, so you know what he's going to be doing in the next couple of years. He was great for a guy with so little experience," explained an ecstatic Subiratis.

It was a special day for Busch and his staff "I feel so happy for these guys, my coaching staff, and this school—and my family. This was special for my family."

"I can't explain any of these last couple weeks. It's two teams that wanted to win, two teams with a lot of pride. There's something about this group that's very special. Coaches talk about their teams being special all the time but there's something special about this group of men and women."
