Nick D'Arcy, the Australian butterfly swimmer charged after an alleged fight outside a nightclub, has been told not to attend the Dolphin's Olympic orientation camp as he awaits a court appearance.

Swimming Australia confirmed that it had told D'Arcy not to attend the camp, starting in Canberra on April 20. The 20-year-old swimmer is due to face court in Sydney on April 21 to answer charges of assault and causing grievous bodily harm over an alleged bar fight with former swimmer Simon Cowley.

Swimming Australia chief executive Glenn Tasker told the Australian media: 'I have been in discussions with his [the swimmer's] father [Justin] for several days and I indicated to him that I had concerns about the fact that he had a court appearance in that time. I thought that should be his main focus and his father fully agreed. So together we made the decision.'
