The Dutch quartet of Hinkelien Schreuder, Femke Heemskerk, Inge Dekker and Marleen Veldhuis destroyed their own world record in the 4x100m freestyle final at Manchester 2008, in 3:29.42. Their old mark, from December, was 3:30.85.

Veldhuis's 51.43 is the fastest split in history, which Fran Halsall clocked a British record of 52.36 leading off her quartet, which took bronze in a national record of 3:32.88, a stroke behind Australia, just outside a Commonwealth record set by the Dolphins A team, on 3:32.00. The final saw five teams knock spots off their national records, including the USA, at 3:34.96 and including four women who in pure US sprint terms could be described as a C team.
