Austrian fells Ryan Lochte by 0.07sec as two men shatter the previous world record at Manchester 2008

Markus Rogan, of Austria, felled Ryan Lochte by 0.07sec in the 200m backstroke as the two men shattered the previous world record at Manchester 2008, the difference 1:47.84 to 1:47.91, their pace slugging Lochte's 2006 best of 1:49.05 into a bygone age.

Here's how the battle unfolded:

Rogan: 26.40; 54.43; 1:21.10; 1:47.84 world record (26.40; 28.03; 26.67; 26.74)
Lochte: 26.13; 53.93; 1:21.00; 1:47.91 US Record (26.13; 27.80; 27.07; 26.91)

The bronze went to Stanislav Donets (RUS) in 1:50.45.

Rogan noted that his previous best had been left three seconds behind. 'That's Ryan's fault. He dragged me along. I can't go [that fast] by myself but with him I can. I wanted to take off at the 100(m) and it didn't work. He's annoying!'
