Paralympic gold medalist Stephanie Dixon raises funds and awareness for the right of every child to play
In preparation for the 2008 Beijing Paralympics this Fall, Canadian swimmer Stephanie Dixon, a contributor to SwimNews Magazine, is helping to raise awareness and funds for Right To Play during her Paralympic journey and beyond.

A Paralympic swimming gold medalist, world record holder, and Right To Play Athlete Ambassador, Stephanie is determined to help Right To Play reach more children through their sport and play programs across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

Last year Stephanie was an ambassador for the Para Pan Am Games and went to Rio de Janeiro before the Games to work in the favellas (slums) with underprivileged children. "It was a very powerful experience," says Stephanie, "because even though they had so few opportunities in life, swimming in a pool or kicking around a ball brought them just as much, maybe more, happiness than any other child."

Stephanie came home from that trip knowing that this was the path she wanted to pursue. "I have had so many opportunities and support in my life that have led me to the success I have had, and person I am today. I want to give back and try to help Right to Play make it every child's right to have an opportunity to play, have fun, and learn about themselves and working with others though sports and play."

Right To Play is committed to improving the lives of children and to strengthen their communities by translating the best practices of sport and play into opportunities to promote development, health, and peace.

Stephanie invites her family, friends, teammates, and all Canadians to support Right To Play as she and her teammates swim to Paralympic victory. Check her out at: Right To Play
