World record holder claims national title in 4:09.44 in last 400m free race before the battle of Beijing

World record holder Federica Pellegrini (ITA) claimed her national 400 free title at Treviso this evening in 4:09.44. The time was some way off her global mark of 4:01.53 but then the favourite for the Olympic crown was hardly pressed. Second went to Flavia Zoccari in 4:11.16

Elsewhere, Elena Gemo shaved 0.27sec off her national 50m back standard to win the crown in 28.91. In the 400m freestyle, Francesco Vespe got the touch in the 400m freestyle, 3:50.41 to 3:40.54 over Federico Colbertaldo, who had bigger medals on his mind.
