EARLIEST RECORDED FEATS BY PIONEER WOMEN SWIMMERS?
On Sept 9, 1875, swimming in the sea at Brighton, England, Miss Dick swam five and a half miles in 2 hours 43 mins.

Nine days later, on Sept. 18. 1875, Miss Emily Parker of London, England, not to be outdone, donned her voluminous bathing suit ( it extended from the neck to below the knees) and thereupon swam nine miles in a running tide down the Thames River to clock 2 hours 24 mins 30 secs.
