The Blade is a cut above the rest at South African Olympic trials; Cameron van der Burgh set an African record of 1:01.04 in the 100m breaststroke

Roland Schoeman and Gideon Louw led a rush inside the qualifying time in the 50m freestyle at South African trials in Durban. Schoeman (21.90 secs) and Louw (22.06) were joined by Lyndon Ferns (22.22) and Ryk Neethling (22.26) in the dash below the 22.50 target.

Cameron van der Burgh set an African record of 1:01.04 in the 100m breaststroke; Suzaan van Biljon clocked 1:08.61 in the 100m breaststroke; Lize-Mari Retief led the way in the 50m freestyle with a 25.24; and Melissa Corfe added her name to the roster with a 2:10.03 200m backstroke.

Jean Basson added the 200m to his Beijing programme that already lists the 400m freestyle, with a 1:47.93 victory and Sebastien Rousseau set a South African record of 1:58.03 in the 200m butterfly. Kathryn Meaklim finished ahead of Mandy Loots 2:12.52 to 2:13.34 in the 200m butterfly.
