Stephan Widmer, coach to Libby Trickett (nee Lenton) has opted to stay in Australia rather than take up an offer to run one of several centres of excellence being opened in Britain in the build-up to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Swiss national Widmer will stay at the Queensland Academy of Sport. Britain, meanwhile, has its plan in place and will announce post-racing in Beijing the final list of centres that have met the criteria of 'excellence' laid down by performance head Michael Scott.

Widmer has one key medal hope in Beijing: Trickett. He also coaches Christian Sprenger and Mel Schlanger. Trickett tells the Australian media today that Widmer's commitment will be met by her own: she will race on after Beijing.
