Leading off the Aussie sprint free relay, Eamon Sullivan blasted to a world record of 47.24sec, 0.26sec inside the standard set by Alain Bernard of France at the European Championships in March this year

The dream is alive: the USA 4x100m freestyle relay, led by Michael Phelps in 47.51 and brought home by Jason Lezak in a blistering pioneering effort of 46.06, gave Superfish his second gold medal of the Games and shattered the world record in 3:08.24. The standard had stood at 3:12.23 since the heats last night.

France claimed second in a European record of 3:08.32, after Alain Bernard entered the water almost a body up on Lezak but collapsed in the closing 10m after a 21.27 opening 50m split. Australia took bronze in a Commonwealth record of 3:09.91.
