Coventry takes gold in world record of 4:26.52 400m medley; Hannah Miley (GBR) also inside former WR, with 4:27.27 for silver; Mireia Belmonte (ESP) goes 4:27.52 for bronze, and also inside the 4:27.83 former WR

Kirsty Coventry (ZIM) took the 400m medley title in a world record of 4:26.52 in a final that saw all three medal winners race inside the 4:27.83 previous global mark posted by the Yana Klochkova (UKR) six years ago.

Hannah Miley (GBR) raced to a European and Commonwealth record of 4:27.27 for silver, ahead of Mireia Belmonte (ESP), on 4:27.52 for bronze.

Coventry, world record holder in the 200m backstroke, won the race on that stroke within half an hour of having dipped below the 58sec mark, by 0.01sec, for the first time, in the semis of the 100m backstroke.

'I can't wait for the Olympics,' said Coventry. 'The world record has really set me up well for Beijing.'

All three medallists wore the LZR. Alessia Filippi (ITA) in an Arena suit, looked somewhat ordinary back in fifth on 4:33.56.
