New Zealand swimmers emerged from the s/c pool in Waitakere City sporting eight new national records

At short-course championships that saw 13 swimmers qualify for world short-course championships in Manchester next April, New Zealand swimmers emerged from the pool in Waitakere City sporting eight new national records. Among them, the 10-year-old 800m freestyle record of 1996 double Olympic (200, 400m free) champion Danyon Loader - now in the hands of Robert Voss.

Jan Cameron, head coach, is quoted by her national federation as saying that she is 'delighted' with progress eight months out from the Beijing Olympic Games. 'We raised the bar and the swimmers really responded. I am delighted. I thought we might get up to 10 swimmers through but to qualify 13 is outstanding. It's important that we continue to challenge our swimmers and to lift our standards in line with world times,' said Cameron.
