Leisel Jones, world champion, world record holder but aiming for third-time-lucky in Beijing as far as Olympic solo gold is concerned, suffered a rare domestic defeat, albeit over 50m, at the Victorian championships.

Tarnee White was the victor in a swift personal best of 30.75sec, well up on Jones' 31.46sec.

The world champion, now coached by Rohan Taylor, confirmed to local reporters what no-one will be surprised to learn: she's in heavy training and doing 4km sessions amid the race sessions at the Victoria titles. Winner of silver and bronze medals on breaststroke at Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004, Jones intends to race at NSW titles next month as a final test before Australia's Olympic trials from March 22.

Elsewhere, Felicity Galvez took the 100m butterfly in a solid 58.82 ahead of Alice Mills, on 59.59sec, and Travis Nederpelt added to his 200 'fly win with victory over 400m medley in a training-mode 4:25.88.
