Olympic 100m champion wins 50m in 25.39 and then misses cut in 200m heats at Victoria titles

Jodie Henry's 'Olympic bid' was said to be back on track Down Under, after she clocked a 25.39 win over 50m at Victoria titles ahead of Alice Mills, on 25.42sec.

It's hard to say what Olympic bid means. If it means making the Australian team, perhaps Henry looks safer today than she did two days ao when she failed to show for the 100m because of illness. But beating a below-par Mills by 0.03 in a time clocked by at least three young teenagers in training so far in the best season, with regards to the likes of Veldhuis, Lenton and Steffen, does not yet suggest medal contention for the troubled Olympic 100m champion. Times at trials will tell us more in March.

Meantime, Henry was back to her now-you-see-her, now-you-don't approach to Beijing the morning after, missing the cut in the heats of the 200m with an effort of 2:04.94 for 11th. Hardly inspiring, in or out of training.

Elsewhere, Leisel Jones claimed the 100m breaststroke ahead of Tarnee White, 1:06.49 to 1:07.38 and then led qualifiers in the 200m in 2:31.85.

Ashley Callus got the touch on Nick Brunelli (USA) 22.51 to 22.62.
