The Olympic medley champion clocks 2:16.47 and 4:47.60 in Luxembourg: training hard but the road to joining Fraser and Egerszegi in the triple crown club is paved with jagged rocks that lead to Katie Hoff

The annual Luxembourg meet witnessed the warm-up efforts of several of those in line for big medals this summer, though it was clear from the times that all are hard at work in training.

The Olympic medley champion clocks 2:16.47 and 4:47.60 over 200 and 400m. Clearly, she is training hard - but the road to joining Dawn Fraser (56, 60, 64) and Krisztina Egerszegi (88, 92, 96) in the triple crown club is paved with jagged rocks that lead to Katie Hoff.

Germany fielded a worthy team. Antje Buschschulte claimed the 100m backstroke in 1:02.89. Annika Lurz won the 400 and 800m freestyle, in 4:11.71 and 8:36.95. However, Lurz, silver medal winner over 200m at Melbourne 2007, could not get inside 2mins over her best distance, a 2:00.01 effort some 1.5sec slower that Laure Manaudou (FRA) has managed to muster long-course while in training this winter. The Luxembourg race went to Ida Marko-Varga (SWE) in 1:59.96.

Lurz's husband's brother, Thomas, took the 1,500m in 15:13.48 and also finished third over 400m medley in 4:28.00, the race won by Lukasz Wojt in 4:25.10. Helge Meeuw put in a decent 55.67 over 100m backstroke, ahead two men testing their ability to return to faster days to make the grade for Beijing: Orn Arnarson, of Iceland, clocked 56.26 and Stev Theloke 56.76.

The 50m freestyle sprints went to Steffen Deibler in 22.50, and one of Germany's world-record quartet, Petra Dallman, in 25.41. Over 100m on Sunday, Yuriy Yegoshin (UKR) got the better of Deibler, 49.84 to 49.92, while a 55.25 was good enough for Dallman to claim a second win.

On butterfly, the 100m went to Artem Pron (UKR), who got the better of teammate Andriy Serdinov, 53.20 to 53.48. Pron improved from a 54.50 in 2006 (after 54.25 in 2005) to a 52.85 at the Paris Open last summer. Denys Sylantyev (UKR) took the 200m in 1:58.08, a meet record. Igor Borysik (UKR) took the 100m and 200m breaststroke in 1:01.82 and a meet record of 2:14.78.
