Olympic champion starts to feel the stress of impending trials as doctors seek an explanation for stomach complaint

A mystery illness is threatening to derail Jodie Henry's attempt to defend her 100m freestyle crown in Beijing. Tests undertaken by the sprinter to discover the nature of the abdominal pains she has been suffering from have left doctors baffled, according to the Australian media.

Henry tells Alex Murdoch at the The Courier-Mail: 'I'm not feeling too fantastic at the moment. I'm a little bit stressed out and I just want to find out exactly what it is that's stopping me from doing my job.' Winner of three gold medals at Athens 2004, Henry, 24, has been named as one of 80 people to take part in the only Australian leg of the Olympic torch relay in April.

The Australian Olympic trials get underway in Sydney on March 22, when Henry will face the might of Libby Lenton and Cate Campbell, among others. Asked if she would be fit enough for the challenge, Henry replied: 'I really have no idea at the moment. It's too stressful when you think how quickly it's creeping up. I'm just taking it one day at a time and trying not to get too stressed out about it.'

Henry will be joined on the torch relay leg by Ian Thorpe and Alice Mills.
