The test is over - roll on the real thing

The Good Luck Beijing China Open concluded with several solid in-training performances, most notably the 2:00.13 and 4:14.24 victories of Laszlo Cseh (HUN) over 200 and 400m medley, a 1:56.06 for former world champion Pawel Korzeniowski (POL) over 200m butterfly, and a 22.39 for Stefan Nystrand (SWE) over 50m freestyle that kept his fingers ahead of the 22.42 of teammate Petter Stymne.

Helge Meeuw (GER) completed a backstroke double, adding the 200m to the 100m win the previous day. His times were 55.07 (off a heat of 54.96) and 1:59.65.

Yuka Kato (JPN) clocked 59.18 over 100m butterfly to keep Xu Yanwei (CHN) at bay, 59.28, with Martina Moravcova (SVK) third in 59.47. Kato put in a 58.99 heats swim.

There were some cheering swims for home supporters: Chen Yanyan (CHN) pipped Antje Buschschulte (GER) 1:01.98 to 1:02.47 in the 100m backstroke but will have to watch her heats speed if she makes it to the Games proper: a 1:03.70 was fine for a passage to the Good Luck final but would surely spell bad luck come August. Chen was confined to silver over 200m backstroke, the touch going to Nikolett Szepesi (HUN) 2:13.33 to 2:13.85. Qi Hui (CHN) clocked a 2:14.14 win over 200m medley.

The test event concluded, reports suggest that the facility in Beijing is magnificent while local hosts were praised for their level of cooperation and willingness to change things that were not working.
