Teammates set British club 4x100m record; Tancock and McClatchey show solid early form at University meet

The British Universities l/c championships in Sheffield at the weekend witnessed a British club record of 3:43.05 in the 4x100m freestyle: Caitlin McClatchey (55.69), Julia Beckett (55.60), Amy Smith (56.27) and Melanie Marshall (55.49) took 2.6 seconds off the previous mark, from 2001.

Top performers of the meet were Liam Tancock, with a 25.06 in the 50m backstroke, and McClatchey, with a 1:57.64 in the 200m freestyle.

Thanks to Loughborough coach Ian Armiger for supplying the information and correcting the news that Marshall had set a 50m backstroke record, when in fact it wasn't news at all - she didn't. Not yet anyway. Look, Mel, the way it works is, I write Marshall Sets WR, and all you have to do then is oblige. Can't say fairer than that! Apologies for the mistake.
