A 12-year-old South African with a PB of 2:29.77 for 200m breaststroke is aiming to book a trip to China when she takes on older rivals at the University of the Western Cape this weekend

Watch for the name Jessica Liss. She's 12, South African, and she has a best time of 2:29.77 in the 200m breaststroke. From Eastern Province, Liss, who also has a best of 5:00.16 400m medley, will be in action this weekend alongside another Jessica, Pengelly, at the second leg of the Samsung Swimming Grand Prix series at the University of the Western Cape.

'I need to dip under the Olympic A qualifying time of 2:28.21 in the 200 metres breaststroke in order to have a chance of making the SA team for the Beijing Olympics, and competing in the Samsung Swimming Grand Prix series will certainly help sharpen my racing in order to achieve this at the Telkom SA National Championships in Durban in April,' said Liss, a pupil at St George's Prep school in Port Elizabeth. In the 100m, Liss has a best 1:12.96.

The top male and female athlete on points will each collect R10 000 at the Samsung series.
